2024 Season Information
Varsity Tryouts begin Thursday, August 15 on "A" Field at CVU.
Players who are trying out for the varsity team are expected to be at all days of tryouts and for every practice during the season.
Aug. 15- 8-10:30am
Aug. 16- 3:30-5:30pm
Aug. 17- 8-10am
Players are expected to be in good conditioning shape, demonstrate a high level of stick skills AND show very good tactical knowledge of field hockey.
We will evaluate players based on 3 areas:
-Technical Skills (ball control, stick work, 1v1 eliminations)
-Tactical Sense of the Game (field sense, how you play in scrimmage, 2v1s)
-Conditioning (athleticism, preparation for tryouts, potential)
Also, we will evaluate coachability, attitude, commitment, and leadership. Varsity athletics are a big time commitment, and we expect that players will be at every practice and game, 6 days per week, and that they will be ready to compete at a high level.
Conditioning:
Players should expect to run a timed mile that will be a bench mark for their basic conditioning. We will also do runs each day, e.g. "Survivor" or "300s" or "Sister Runs." Therefore, summer conditioning should be part of your preparation for the season!

2022 Preseason Information
Varsity Tryouts:
- "A" Field.
-Open to all students, grades 9-12. We expect that athletes who come to this tryout are ready to be there and think they might be one of the top 30 field hockey players in our program.
-No juniors/seniors will be put on the JV team, so there may be 11/12 graders who are cut from the field hockey program. We do not love that option, so we will work with players to see if there is a spot on the varsity team for them to play as practice players or team managers.
Check the CVU Athletics website for Form ReLeaf Registration. All students will need to register to play field hockey and have a current physical on file in order to try out.

What is Required to play a sport at CVU
In order to participate in athletics at CVU each athlete must meet the following requirements:
1. Each student must present a completed physical form, OR have a current physical on file at the school. A physical is considered “current” if has been within the last two years.
2. Each student must be enrolled in a minimum of five courses or their equivalent each quarter.
3. Each student must maintain a minimum grade of “C-” range cumulative average, each quarter
Once again, ALL required paperwork (except for the sports physical) will be completed on-line via a platform called “Form ReLeaf.”
http://athletics.cvuhs.org/forms-and-evaluations.html
This will allow parents to complete forms ONCE and then the information will be pre-populated IF you have more than one child OR your child plays more than one sport. Medical forms still need be to be handed in because of the requirement for the Doctor’s signature. However, once turned it, it will be uploaded to Form ReLeaf and thus will NOT get lost or misplaced. Parents will access the site from the CVU website.
The CVU co-curricular policies and procedures handbook can be found at https://sites.google.com/a/cvuhs.org/cvu-athletics/home/policies-guidelines
